  • A medium-sized bucket with hot water

Step 1: Open the strainer and stopper at first. Most bathtub strainers and stoppers can be removed manually. However, if they are tightened up with screws, use a screwdriver to remove them temporarily.

Step 2: Over time hair and soap residues form a solid structure on the strainer and stopper. Clean the excess gunk from them. You might require a sponge to clean the gunk.

Step 3: Insert the drain stick deep into the drain to remove any hair or other residues from it. A drain stick is an excellent way to overpower hair.

Necessary Things

  • About 4-5 cups of boiling water
  • Half cup of baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Later, standing water in the bathtub
Step 1.

Replace the bathtub strainer and stopper as mentioned in Step 1 in the beach cleaning procedure on the above. You can do it manually or using a screwdriver.

Step 2.

Now pour one or two cups of boiling water through the drain.

Step 3.

Next, pour the baking soda (1/2 portion only) into the drain.

Step 4.

Mix the other cups of water with the vinegar. Add the remaining baking soda and stir the mixture well.

Step 5.

Pour the mixture into the drain and wait approximately 20 minutes.

Step 6.

Pour or flash standing water forcefully through the drain to unclog it. Once you are satisfied with the unclogging, properly replace the strainer and stopper.

How to Unclog a Bathtub Drain with Baking Soda

Baking soda, along with few drops of vinegar is considered as one of the best homemade natural cleaning agents to unclog bathtub drain.

Necessary Things

  • Two cups of baking soda
  • A cup of vinegar
  • Boiling water
  • Screwdriver to remove and replace strainer and stopper
Step 1.

At first, use the screwdriver to remove the filter and stopper. Remember that not all the bathtub comes with a stopper.

Step 2.

Soap scum and hair quickly accumulate near the bathtub strainer ad stopper. Wipe them out with a used cloth or towel.

Step 3.

Now pour the boiling water into the bathtub drain

Step 4.

Slowly pour some ½ cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar into the strain on the water.  Wait for at least 15 minutes to allow the mixture to sit.

Step 5.

Now pour another kettle of hot water into the bathtub drain. Then, pour the rest of the vinegar and baking soda into the drain.

Step 6.

After waiting for another 10-15 minutes, pour some water to clean the residue to get an unclogged drain.
